Morphological Characteristics of Korean Native Lilies

Abstract
This study was carried out to estimate the ornamental value of Korean native lilies by the investigation of morphological characteristics in native lands.
The rasults obtained were as follows:
1. In morphological characteristics of native lilies in their native habitats, Lilium lancifolium possessed alternate phyllotaxy and the largest flower with black spots all over the perianths among the native lilies, and formed bulbils at the leaf arils. The leaves and stems of L. amabile and L. leichtlinii var. maximowiczii were covered with short hairs. L. callosum possessed very narrow lanceolated leaf shape and very acute leaf apex, with salmon scarlet flower color. L. lancifolium growing at Mt. Geum in Namhae had no leaf and stem hair.
2. The pink rose flower color of L. cernum was unique to those of the other native lilies. A special feature of morphological characteristics of L. concolor var. partheneion was upfaeed brick red colored flower, with no hair in leaves and stems.
3. L. distichum, L. tsingtauense, L. hansonii had whorled phyllotaxy. Among them L, distichum and L. tsingtauense showed 1 layered whorled leaves, whereas, L. hansonii has 2¡3 layered whorled leaves. But 2¡3 layered leaves attached L. tsingtauense was discovered in Goesan and Yeonggwang districts. The flower color of L. hansonii was yellow or golden yellow in native habitats. Its flower color was distinctive from those of other lilies.
4. Scale nodes were observed only in L. disticum and L. tsingtauense bulbs, and its degree was much higher in L. distichum.
